St Michael's Church, Handsworth - history
It was built from 1851 to 1855 (when Handsworth was still in Staffordshire) by architect W Bourne.
Described as a large sandstone church with ashlar dressings, with a chancel, aisles, nave, west transepts, and a south west tower with spire added in 1868, all in the Decorated style.

The foundation stone was laid in 1852 by by William Legge, 4th Earl of Dartmouth, of Sandwell Hall.
The church was consecrated by John Lonsdale, the Bishop of Lichfield.
It has been a Grade II listed building since 1982 and is in the Diocese of Birmingham.
