Smethwick Junction is a must visit location for followers of history and heritage. It is to be found on the Birmingham mainline canal between Birmingham and Sandwell.
At Sandwell Junction there are two Horesley IronWorks Roving Bridges dating back to 1828 and built as part of thomas Telford's improvements to the Birmingham canal.
One of the bridges crosses the mainline to the east of the junction and the other crosses the old mainline to the west. Each bridge has a span of 52.5 feet with each arch rising 9 feet. Both bridges are Grade II listed structures.
