The Royal is a Grade II listed public house at the corner of Church Street and Cornwall Street in the Colmore Business District. Built in 1898 as The Red Lion by A H Hamblin.

The Old Royal - History

A previous pub existed on this site called The Red Lion Hotel.

The licensee at the time was H. Nicholas, selling Alfred Homer's beer from the Vulcan brewery.

A historic public house built in 1898 in a vaguely Loire style.

It was a rebuilding of a old public house that was called the Red Lion for Alfred Homer, by A H Hamblin.

The pub was renamed from the Red Lion to the Old Royal during the 1960's.

It is located at 53 and 55 Church Street on the corner with Cornwall Street.

It became a Grade II listed building in July 1982.

Described as being built out of purple brick and terracotta.

The corner entrance bay has a toarelle capped by an apparently altered conical roof with lively weathervane.

Whenever the Euros or the World Cup is on in the summer, the pub is decorated in European or World flags and bunting.

The Prince Albert Lounge is inside of the pub. Also nice hanging flower pots outside the pub in the summer during the Euro's and World Cup.

The Old Royal was renamed to The Royal sometime in 2023.
